The Artist
(b.1988, Canada) Nick Sider is a self-taught acrylic painter, based out of New York. He grew up with a love and passion for art, but decided to pursue other interests after leaving high school. Sider went to college, got a theology degree and worked with charities and churches for several years, yet he knew something was missing. At the age of 25, Nick Sider decided to pursue his childhood dream of becoming an artist. What proceeded was a drastic shift in his world. He quit his job, moved, and began painting. After completing and selling his first original painting, Nick Sider knew he was meant to be an artist.
While experimenting with a multitude of subject matter, Sider has always maintained a hyperrealistic style, attempting to create paintings that extend beyond what a photograph could ever capture. Initially, Sider's focus was primarily on wildlife art; however, after moving to Brooklyn, NY in 2015, he turned his attention towards the contemporary art scene, attempting to develop his own artistic vocabulary. Sider began experimenting with both figurative and abstract works, drawing a great deal of inspiration from his time spent living and working in Brooklyn. His most recent painting series, PRIMAL, opens Thursday, June 9th at MIDOMA NYC.

Artist Statement
My aim is not necessarily to be an artist, but rather to do what I love and share it with others. I love to paint. I love to create life on canvas. There is an indescribable rush I experience when I begin to see a painting come to life and I continue to chase after this feeling within my work. Being one of the oldest known forms of communication, I often think of my responsibility as an artist within society. As I continue to create new work, I am continuously inspired by the unseen...taking what is missed in everyday life and displaying it for the viewer to witness and experience.
